SWCD SPONSORS THREE TEAMS TO THE REGIONAL ENVIROTHON
Envirothon is a competitive learning event for high school-aged students testing their knowledge of environmental resources including soils, water, forestry, wildlife and current environmental issues.
ENVIROTHON builds awareness. It helps show tomorrow's leaders the positive and negative effects that individual actions have on the environment. Youth who take part, understand differences between renewable and non renewable resources, realize environmental interactions and interdependencies, and know who to turn to concerning environmental matters. Students have fun while becoming environmentally aware during the competion.
Teams of (5) students, representing a school or organization, complete by answering questions and by studying resource problems in each of the five (50 environmental areas. Before the competition students spend research time with their advisors developing a greater understanding of the interaction between humanity and the environment. At the Envirothon competition, students test their knowledge under the supervision of environmental instructors. Students are challenged to use team work to develop creative solutions to environmental problems. The competition provides students with experiences in conservation oriented activities, enabling them to become environmentally aware, action-oriented adults.
