Educational Programs Offered by the Sullivan County SWCD

 

The Sullivan County SWCD offers educational programs to enhance your teaching. The SWCD provides these programs free of charge, they typically last 30-45 minutes. To schedule a program, contact Sandy Drake at (812) 268-5157 extension 3 or sdrake@custom.net.

Educational Program Menu:

bulletEarthworms (pre K-4) - Earthworms are both fascinating and beneficial creatures! After a brief story about the benefits and habits of earthworms, each students will be given worms to look at under a magnifying glass.
bulletThe Lorax (pre K-4) - Schedule this Dr. Suess story to be read to your class room. (Great way to celebrate  Dr. Suess's birthday. Students learn what happens to a forest when it isn't used wisely.
bulletPaper Hat Making (3-5) - Students will make a hat from newspapers while discovering  the concept of "reusing" to help save the environment
bulletIma Recycler (2-6) - As "Granny", a.k.a. Ima Recycler, tells her  tale of traveling from Kentucky to Sullivan County, students learn what is recycled in Sullivan County and the importance of all of us working  together to keep our environment beautiful and healthy.
bulletRecycling in Sullivan County - (5-12) Students lean about the recycling program in Sullivan County. What is recycled and how materials should be prepared. This is a Powerpoint presentation. 
bulletEnviro Buddy -(K-6) - Participants discuss litter, reasons why we shouldn't litter and ways to reuse throw away items. Everyone then makes a head from sawdust, grass seed and panty hose. Just add water and  watch it grow hair!
bulletIncredible Journey (4-7) A trip through the water cycle. Students will simulate the movement of water within the water cycle.
